Canary islands

The largest of the seven Canary Islands, Tenerife map sits in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of North Africa and enjoys eternal sunshine – one of the reasons that makes this beautiful island such a hotspot for millions of tourists every year. The magnificent sight of Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain, welcomes you as you come into land and in the winter can even be covered in snow while on the coast the sun shines as usual. Over the years Tenerife has become a popular holiday destination and it’s easy to see why with dozens of great resorts to choose from. From the well-known resorts of Playa las Américas and Los Cristianos, the stunning cliffs at Los Gigantes to the pine forests in the national park…this island has so much more to offer other than great weather.

Tenerife is the only of the Canary Island with two airports. Los Rodeos airport is situated in the north of the island near La Laguna, while the Reina Sofia airport is in the south near the Costa del Silencio, a few miles from Las Americas / Los Cristianos, and now handles most the international flights to Tenerife. Both are modern and busy. There is also no shortage of taxis waiting for you outside, but if you’ve arrived on a package deal, there’s likely to be a shuttle waiting for you. The easiest and most reliable way to find airline tickets to Tenerife consists of going online and comparing airline ticket prices. You have probably booked airline tickets in the past only to find out that another company was selling them for less. This can be avoided by going to an airline ticket price comparison website. Car hire in Tenerife is a very competitive business, apart from the internationally known companies there are many Spanish national companies and a host of small local companies operating rent a car in Tenerife . Price of course is a major factor in many peoples choice of company when hiring, searching internet for car hire in Tenerife is a very popular solution.

Puerto de la Cruz is the best resort in the north of Tenerife map. It is a beautiful lush town that has the backdrop of Mount Teide whilst having views over the Atlantic Ocean, it is truly breathtaking. it's not really suited for the young as it doesn't have the nightlife and parties that a resort like Playa de las Americas provides. It is a much more traditional Canarian town with a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Puerto de la Cruz boasts several beaches as well as the amazing Lido de Martiánez, which is a series of lake size pools and water fountains set next to the sea, it's a fabulous place to cool off.

Playa de Las Americas sits in the south of Tenerife map and is well known for two things. Firstly it's weather, if you are looking for sunny and hot then this is the place to be. Due to it's location, Playa de las Americas receives a huge amount of sunshine and even in December it is not uncommon for temperatures to reach a wonderful 80 degrees. The second thing Playa de Las Americas is known for is it's party atmosphere. If you are anywhere between 18-30 and love to party all night with a vast selection of pubs and clubs then this is most definitely the place for you. This resort offers everything you would need for a fantastic holiday.

Los Cristianos sits nestled at the bottom of mountain Chayofita in the south of Tenerife map. It's a real beauty spot and tends to cater more for the mature and family orientated holiday maker. It is certainly a much quieter choice than the hustle and bustle of its neighbour Playa de Las Americas. There is a lovely pedestrianised town centre, where you can treat yourself in many of the local shops, sample the food at many of the excellent restaurants or simply sit outside a lovely cafe people watching and enjoying the sunshine. Los Cristianos is also home to a beautiful sheltered golden sand beach and thanks to the breakwaters offers excellent swimming opportunities in the lovely clear blue sea, ideal for cooling off.

Costa Adeje sits just slightly North West of Los Cristianos still in the south of Tenerife map. It is similar to it's neighbour Los Cristianos with a much more relaxed and upscale atmosphere compared to Playa de Las Americas. As Costa Adeje caters more to an up-market clientele you can be sure to find some of the best Tenerife luxury hotels here, with most hotels offering superb panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
